Field guide Six plates
What I am hired for
Six kinds of work, though most projects are two or three of them at once — which is rather the point of hiring one person rather than assembling three. Each plate is the honest version: who it suits, what the work involves, and what decides the price.

How any of them start
the same four steps
-
01You send a note
What you have, what is wrong, what it should do. A paragraph is enough to start.
-
02I answer honestly
Including when I am not the right fit, which is a real answer and not a soft no.
-
03A written plan
Scope and order in writing, so what you are buying is legible before you buy it.
-
04Work, in the open
Something to look at every few days, and documentation left behind at the end.
Send a note
Tell me what you have, what is wrong, and what it should do instead. I will tell you honestly whether I am the right fit.
